This October, we’re reminded of the strength and resilience of those affected by breast cancer. At Fox & Schingo, we believe in the importance of raising awareness and supporting our community during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
This month (and really every month), we’re dedicated to educating our patients and community about breast health, early detection, and the options available for those who have faced a breast cancer diagnosis. Our team is committed to providing compassionate care and personalized support throughout every stage of the journey. Read below and watch our social pages for information.
We invite you to join us in this vital conversation and help spread awareness by sharing information with your own community to make sure that people know that they are not alone if they are diagnosed and that there are resources available to help them on their healing journey.
One such resource became available to everyone in 2010, when New York State passed the Breast Cancer Provider Discussion Law (BCDL). This law mandates that surgeons in New York council patients on available breast reconstruction options. They also must describe assurance of insurance coverage, and provide names of surgeons who perform reconstructive surgery.
Breast reconstruction is not for everyone- it’s a personal choice. We provide consultations for patients to get information so they can then make their own decision if reconstructive surgery is right for them.
If considering breast reconstruction, it is best to call as soon as possible since it can often be done at the same time as a mastectomy.
For everyone- please remember to get your mammogram this year. Ellis Medicine offers mammograms at multiple locations. For more information, you can call (518) 243-4000 or go to: https://www.ellismedicine.org/women/imaging.aspx
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with breast cancer, there are support groups and informational sessions to help you. New York Oncology & Hemotology has a lot of information on their website: https://newyorkoncology.com/
